Monkeynerd

The Monkey likes to call me sometimes when he's hanging with Monkey-dad to tell me the this and that of his life. Sometimes it's random and he doesn't have much to say. Sometimes he's bursting at the seams. Sometimes in the middle of the conversation he'll say something completely weird like "Um...yes...who is this again?" He's playful like that.

Last night he called me with a purpose:

Monkey: Mommy, I have something to tell you.
Me: Ok. Let's hear it.
Monkey: I eschew edamame.
Me: You what?
Monkey: I eschew edamame.
Me: You're chewing edamame? That's awesome!
Monkey: No, no, no! I eschew edamame. (pause) It means to turn away from.
Me: Oh. Well. Yeah...in fact it does.
Monkey: Ok, you can talk to Daddy now...

Ok, in fairness, this one wasn't my fault... Blame Veggie Tales. In their latest episode, Larryboy and the Bad Apple, Larryboy battles temptation...which arrives at his door in the form of a beautiful shiny red Applewoman bearing chocolate (his weakness)...and her evil mechanical spider outift (which spins webs of pure temptation). Alfred the butler tells Larryboy that he should eschew temptation. It's kind of a Batman meets Snow White in the Garden of Eden thing...

Anyway...but still...whoa. I wonder if he'll keep up this kind of vocabulary when he hits school in a couple years and starts learning useful phrases like "smeller's the feller" and "boogerhead"...

I don't think kindergardener's say "feller" these days. But you can probably expect lots of bathroom humor.

I am so proud of Monkey! He's using his new vocabulary in new and interesting (and wonderfully correct) ways!! Good job little man!

You can't say you didn't play a part in this though...

Oh, and in the spirit of Veggie Tales, the belly button song?? Priceless!

Yeah, but "feller" rhymes with "smeller"...see?? I figure they still rhyme in school, right?

...suddenly I feel old. I need advice from a 7 year old...quick!

Am I the only person who doesn't know what edamame is? And here I thought my vocabulary was pretty good...

Grrrbear! I'm appalled! Next time I visit, we will find a japanese restaurant and you will experience the salty deliciousness that is edamame.
