Earth Hour

The Monkey and I celebrated Earth Hour last night. I mistakenly called it "the hour of darkness" (couldn't remember the real name), so that's the name that stuck. We lit a bunch of candles around the house and kind of went about our evening routine...

The tricky part about Earth Hour was that it occurred right at the Monkey's bedtime. He gamely took a bath by candlelight...and we set up a fancy reading light with a mirror that reflected the candlelight down onto the cozy rocking chair. We made it through the next two chapters of the Hardy Boys mystery we've been reading with minimal eye strain. All in all, I'd say it worked out well...and the Monkey agrees! He's already asking if we can do it again tonight...

Unfortunately, not all of our neighbors heard about Earth Hour. I scanned the neighborhood from my candlelit window and noticed that almost everyone had at least one (non-flickering) lighted window. That's ok... I helped balance them out: after the Monkey drifted off to sleep, I blew out the candles and went to bed. An hour of darkness and 10 hours of sleep. Life is good!

Monkey's reading the Hardy Boys?! I loved the Hardy Boys! You should check out Encyclopedia Brown - that was another of my favorites.
