Musical Question

I have a friend who's moving to the Free Lovin' West Coast...and I wanted to do some kind of little going-away something to commemorate the occasion. I puzzled and puzzled til my puzzler was sore, and ultimately figured what's a better "good luck on the Free-Lovin' West Coast" parting gift than a homespun CD of really good...er..."Free-Lovin'" tunes?

(Oh...now...shush! We'll debate the High Fidelity implications of the mix-tape later...on to more important matters now...)

...problem is I could only come up with a couple of tunes that I knew had to be on there...which would make for a seriously short CD. That's where you come in. Spin the wheel and help me out...I figure the blogosphere is filled with diverse, interesting, creative peeps...surely you can help me form a proper setlist for this thing, right?

Here are the parameters (a girl's gotta have her standards!):

1. The recpient is a 30yo male, so let's go ahead and nix Barry White and the ilk, shall we? (and anyway, ew) This isn't about love songs...though some suggestions might occasionally border on the romantic, that shouldn't necessarily be the point of the tune...

2. The type of tunes I'm talking about are songs that all but grind themselves against you and demand you take notice...the kind of music that makes you seriously consider whether or not you should pull off to the side of the road and take a minute...music that makes you want to be, you know, naked as quickly as possible...a little raw...a little primal... Get the idea?

My candidates so far are the following...

1. 311s version of "Love Song" (top of the list....high yeow! factor)
2. Meredith Brooks "What Would Happen"
3. Sarah McLachlan's "Possession" (a little chick, yes, but kind of required...)

If it's not too whiplash, I've also considered NIN's "Closer" (again, can you make this kind of CD and not include it? I'm not sure...) and maybe something from Bryan Ferry's "Boys and Girls" CD (Roxy music...rowr!)...but we'll have to see how that works out. Also, just from what little I know about her, I'm guessing there's probably a Shakira song out there that fits the bill, but I'd have to do some research (and/or find someone who actually speaks spanish :)...

So that's something like...15ish more songs that I need to get this thing done... Your challenge? Help me out...make the list... Just from what little bit I know about my readers and friends, I think you guys have musical tastes that span the gamut...so I'm kind of excited about the potential for this to be an earth shattering mix...

Anyone feeling helpful?

The "Hips Don't Lie" song seems to be a particularly popular one of Shakira's currently, and the lyrics certainly seem to fit what you're looking for.

I'll have to consider this more when I get home...

Alternatively, if you want to complete the "sexy bad girl" genre you also have:

Britney Spears - "Toxic", "Slave 4U"
Christina Aguilera - "Dirrrty"
Pink - "Oh My God"

And, of course:

Celine Dion - "My Heart Will Go On"

...that Canadian tramp. =)

I vote the new Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous or that John Mayer song. You know the one.

I worked on this for a couple of hours last night...I'll post a setlist when I get it done. So far, it's smokin' enough to melt the CD player...a little more fine tuning and I think I'll have a Nuclear Mix...

:)

More suggestions welcome!

I thought of more!

Feeling Good - Nina Simone
Erotica - Madonna
Dance With Me - Debelah(?) Morgan

I can't wait to see the set list, I may need to burn a copy of this CD.
